Great White Pelican

Great White Pelican is white in colour with long, broad wings that have black and grey primary feathers. It has a large body, short legs, a short tail and webbed feet. It has a long, yellow beak that has a pouch on the lower half.

Great White Pelicans can be found in the freshwater lakes, marshes, swamps and deltas of Africa, Asia and eastern Europe.

Great White Pelicans feed on fish. They do not dive to catch their prey, instead they dip their head underwater and scoop up fish.

During the breeding season adults have low, hoarse calls, but they are usually silent when they are not nesting.

Great White Pelicans are strong swimmers and they can reach speeds up to 6 km/hr.
